The Walter Tapia Foundation (WTF) is a limited liability corporation operating as a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) public charity as recognized by the Internal Revenue Service.
The public charity's Letter of Determination as issued by the IRS is available here or upon request.
Exhausted, angered but not defeated by the lack of leadership to implement or even propose effective policies to protect students, teachers and school staffs from gun violence, WTF has created its own programming designed to be immediately impactful by identifying weapons and threats of violence and providing an elevated level of physical safety to students, teachers and school staffs.
Implemented in collaboration with local schools, WTF's program will result in transformational positive change without being dependent upon the passage of legislation, government guarantees, or money from the pockets of taxpayers.
In collaboration with local school districts and police, WTF will focus its resources on two elements designed to produce immediate results protecting students, teachers and schools' staffs.
First, contractors will install, maintain, and operate ongoing, state-of-art, noninvasive airport-level security screening infrastructure inside the entrances of participating public schools.
Second, to supplement weapons screening capacity inside public schools, contractors will install, maintain, and operate a matrix of cameras in parking lots outside of public schools specifically designed to identify weapons and immediately notify local law enforcement.
Led by Maria Walter, a Mexican American mother with two children in public schools, the Walter Tapia Foundation is supported by a robust board including those with expertise in cyber and physical security, nonprofit governance, and organizational best practices.
WTF's partner in providing the equipment, services, and expertise to make this project a reality now, is Evolv Technologies Holdings, Inc.
A publicly traded company, headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, Evolv is an industry leader in noninvasive screening technology used by school districts in Maryland and Virginia, the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and more than twenty professional sports venues across America.
